The Child and Youth Program Assistant (Child Development Center) is responsible for providing direct care and supervision to children and youth in a Department of the Air Force Child Development Center. Duties include planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that promote physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. The assistant will ensure a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment, following all established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include supervising children during indoor and outdoor play, mealtimes, and rest periods; assisting with curriculum implementation; maintaining cleanliness and organization of the classroom; and interacting positively with children, parents, and staff. The role requires observing and documenting children's progress and behavior, and reporting any concerns to the supervisor. The assistant may also assist with special events, field trips, and other program activities. Depending on the level (Entry, Intermediate, or Target), the assistant will take on increasing responsibilities, including mentoring less experienced staff and completing required training modules. The position operates on a flexible schedule, with guaranteed zero hours per week and the potential to work between 0 and 40 hours per week, or part-time (20-40 hours per week).

ALL LEVELS: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, with proof (diploma or equivalent) required. For the Target Level: 18 months of experience working in any childcare or youth program, plus completion of DoD-approved competency-training courses. Additionally, must possess and maintain one of the following directly related to the assigned age group: Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Military School Age credential, or other nationally recognized youth development credential; OR an associate degree with at least 24 credit hours in a directly related field (e.g., early childhood education, child development, youth development) from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university; OR a bachelor's degree or at least 120 semester hours with 24 credit hours in a directly related field from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university. For the Intermediate Level: Six months of experience equivalent to the CY-01 Entry Level working in a group program for children or youth, plus completion of 3 AF modules (or equivalent) and AF Orientation Training Program. For the Entry Level: No previous experience required.
