Child and Youth Program Assistant (Youth Programs)

The Child and Youth Program Assistant (Youth Programs) is responsible for assisting in the planning, implementation, and supervision of developmentally appropriate activities for school-age children and youth in a group setting. Duties include ensuring the safety and well-being of participants, maintaining a positive and engaging environment, and supporting the overall program goals. Key responsibilities include: - Supervising children and youth during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations. - Assisting in the preparation and implementation of age-appropriate educational, recreational, and social activities. - Guiding children and youth in developing social skills, conflict resolution, and positive behavior. - Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment, including equipment and supplies. - Observing and documenting children's progress and behavior, and communicating with parents and program staff as needed. - Participating in training sessions and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge. - Supporting the program's daily operations, including attendance tracking, meal service, and record-keeping. - Adapting activities to meet the needs of children with diverse backgrounds and abilities. - Collaborating with team members to ensure a cohesive and supportive program environment. - Performing other duties as assigned to support the effective functioning of the youth program.

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements based on the level of the position: ALL LEVELS: - Must be a high school graduate or equivalent (diploma or equivalent required for verification). TARGET LEVEL: - 18 months of experience working in any childcare or youth program. - Completion of DoD-approved competency-training courses, with entry and intermediate level training completed and evident by Service-issued documentation. - Possession and maintenance of one of the following directly related to the age group assigned: Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Military School Age Credential, or other nationally recognized youth development credential. - OR 18 months of experience working in a childcare or youth program plus an associate degree with at least 24 credit hours in a major course of study directly related to the age group assigned (e.g., early childhood education, child development, youth development, human development, elementary education, special education, secondary education, youth program administration, recreation, physical education). - OR a bachelor's degree or at least 120 semester hours with 24 credit hours in a major course of study directly related to the age group assigned. INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: - Six months of experience equivalent to the CY-01 Entry Level working in a group program for children or youth. - Completion of 3 AF modules (or equivalent). - Completion of AF Orientation Training Program. ENTRY LEVEL: - No previous experience required. Additional requirements: - Must be a U.S. citizen or citizen of a NATO country with a U.S. permanent resident card (per SOFA agreement). - Must be able to verify ability to arrive in the commuting area before a firm job offer can be sent. - Experience may include paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps).
