The Registered Nurse (VANOD) functions as a clinical expert in the Executive Director department at the Bath VA Medical Center. This role executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care. The nurse is responsible for delivering fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical competencies. Key duties include integrating biopsychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice in providing care to clients with basic or complex needs. The position requires demonstrating leadership in patient care, ensuring veteran/patient-driven care, engaging in professional development, and applying evidence-based practice and research. The nurse must also manage complex client care with a focus on improving patient outcomes and coordinating care across the healthcare system.

English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English. Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) at the time the program was completed. Alternatively, individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may be appointed on a temporary basis upon achieving a State license, then converted to permanent after completing the bridge program. Graduates of foreign schools must have a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration and a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA (e.g., International Consultants of Delaware). Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, Commonwealth (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who meet education requirements but lack licensure may be appointed as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment (extendable up to two years) while pursuing licensure. Grandfathering Provision: All persons employed in VHA in the 0610 series and performing duties as described in the qualification standard on 1/29/2024 are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held. Grade Determinations: For Nurse I, Level I: An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing with no additional professional nursing required. For Nurse I, Level II: An ADN or Diploma in Nursing AND 1 year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level I; OR a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional experience required.
