This position may be filled anywhere in the United StatesABOUT THE ROLEWe are looking for an experienced, visionary leader to fill the Director of Software role within FOS. This position will be responsible for the management of resources that support our rapidly growing FOS Core and Simplebid products, driving the feature development and integration of new technologies and best practices into the architecture of our mobile software and web applications. In this role, you will be responsible for the alignment of our software engineering practices with business objectives and industry standards, while fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence. You will collaborate closely with leadership across all levels of the company, enabling cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions that meet the evolving needs of our internal and external customers.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL DOTechnical Leadership and Strategy:
Define and communicate the technical vision and strategy for our software products, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals and customer needs
Manage the design and development of scalable, robust, and secure application architecture alongside the Digital Products team.
Drive the adoption of best practices in software engineering, including coding standards, testing, and DevOps.
Team Management & Development:
Manage, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth.
Recruit and retain top engineering talent, ensuring the team has the skills and resources needed to succeed.
Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and create development plans for team members.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with software engineering leadership, product management, product design, and other stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Collaborate with other departments, such as operations and customer support, to ensure successful deployment and support of applications.
Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams, communicating complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
Architectural Designand Implementation:
Collaborate with the Director of Software Engineering, Digital Products to develop the architectural design of software systems, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business goals.
Oversee the implementation of key architectural initiatives, including microservices, cloud-based solutions, and API-driven development.
Evaluate and integrate new technologies, frameworks, and tools that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the engineering team.
Quality Assuranceand Performance:
Ensure that all software development projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet the highest quality standards.
Implement and oversee continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, automated testing, and code reviews.
Monitor application performance, security, and reliability, adjusting as necessary to meet SLAs and customer expectations.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software architecture and engineering.
Foster a culture of innovation by encouraging experimentation, prototyping, and the exploration of new ideas.
Continuously assess and improve engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to optimize efficiency and output.
Risk Managementand Compliance:
Ensure that software teams, both on-shore and off-shore, comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements, specifically SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2.
Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans for critical systems.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field; Advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Minimum of 12 years of qualifying experience
Extensive experience in the management of engineering teams, with a strong background in migration from legacy to modern stacks for complex web-based applications and services.
Proven experience in a leadership role, with deep experience managing and scaling engineering teams and products in national markets.
Deep understanding of modern software architecture patterns, cloud computing, microservices, APIs, CI/CD, Git, and DevOps practices.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
Experience with Agile or Scrum methodologies and familiarity with industry-standard management tools required. Experience with Azure DevOps services and Microsoft Planner preferred.
The salary range for this position is $240,000 to $275,000 annually This salary range is the range we believe is the anticipated range of possible base compensation at the timing of the posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the anticipated salary range for the position. Based on the position status, employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and a full benefit package including medical, dental and vision coverage and flexible spending account options and voluntary insurances.
