Our mission is to responsibly decarbonize the grid and make North American energy markets more affordable, sustainable, and efficient. Aypa is well-capitalized and uniquely positioned to lean forward on projects with well-suited deal structures to meet our customers’ needs. We have been at the forefront of energy storage development since our first energy storage project came online in 2018. As a leader in our industry, we have over 22 GW of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects in development and 33 projects in operation or construction across North America.
We are seeking a transactional attorney to work closely with the Senior Associate General Counsel on a broad range of EPC and Operations matters and be part of our lean and dynamic team. Scope may include procurement of major equipment, long term service agreements, EPC contracts and balance of plant O&M agreements, as well as the handlingofcontractdisputes, change orders and compliance matters that may arise, during a period of rapid company growth.
Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with internal legal, commercial, and technical stakeholders as well as external counsel in drafting, reviewing and negotiating equipment supply and EPC contracts (and related services);
Manage multiple transactions;
Support the Execution, Operations and Asset Management teams during the construction and operational life cycle of the projects;
Facilitate legal support for cross-functional teams, focusing on regulatory compliance and strategic legal positioning;
Interface and negotiate directly with suppliers, EPCs, operators, and other counterparties as needed;
Oversee and manage external counsel in a wide range of matters;
Identify and succinctly communicate material risks and proposed solutions to Aypa’s executives and team leads;
Find ways to optimize and improve templates, processes for efficiency and compliance and apply best practices;
Other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications
JD from an accredited law school;
Active bar licensure in at least one US jurisdiction;
5+ years of post-qualification experience, with demonstrated experience in utility-scale battery energy storage procurement, construction and operations;
Proven ability to manage multiple complex transactions and competing priorities;
Driven and takes ownership of deals to ensure timely execution and follow through;
Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint proficiency;
Excellent organizational and planning skills with meticulous attention to detail;
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills;
Highest standards of ethics and integrity.
Compensation and Location:
Salary: A base salary commensurate with experience.
Bonus: An annual bonus will be awarded based on both individual performance as well as the overall success of the business.

- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Minimum of 3-5 years of transactional legal experience, preferably in energy, construction, or infrastructure sectors
- Strong expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating EPC contracts, equipment supply agreements, and long-term service agreements
- Experience managing contract disputes, change orders, and compliance issues
- Ability to handle multiple transactions and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for direct interface with suppliers, EPCs, and counterparties
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (legal, commercial, technical) and manage external counsel
- Familiarity with utility-scale energy storage or renewable energy projects is preferred
- Strong analytical skills to identify and articulate material risks and propose practical solutions
