Practicum Student Internship (MFT, CFT)

As a Practicum Student Intern (MFT, CFT) at Rafiki Coalition for Health and Wellness, you will provide mental health counseling services to Black, African American, and marginalized communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Your primary responsibilities include conducting individual, group, and family therapy sessions under the supervision of licensed clinicians. You will assess clients' mental health needs, develop treatment plans, and implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions tailored to diverse populations. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care, including referrals to internal programs such as HIV prevention, housing support, and health screenings. Additionally, you will maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with ethical and legal standards. You will participate in weekly supervision sessions to enhance your clinical skills and receive feedback. You will also engage in community outreach and education to promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma. Your role involves supporting clients in navigating systemic barriers to wellness, fostering resilience, and empowering them to achieve their personal goals. You will contribute to a holistic, client-centered approach that integrates mental health with other health and social services. You will attend team meetings, case conferences, and training sessions to stay current with best practices in community mental health. You will also assist in program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives to ensure services are effective and culturally responsive. This internship provides hands-on experience in a nonprofit setting focused on health equity and social justice.

Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) or Couples and Family Therapy (CFT) from an accredited institution. Must be eligible for practicum placement and have completed required coursework. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work with diverse populations, particularly Black, African American, and marginalized communities. Knowledge of systemic and family therapy approaches. Commitment to cultural humility and trauma-informed care. Basic computer skills for documentation. Must pass background check. Bilingual skills are a plus.
