Student Nurse Externship All HCA Midwest Hospitals

As a Student Nurse Extern at HCA Midwest Hospitals, you will gain hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare professionals. Your primary responsibilities include assisting with patient care activities such as taking vital signs, performing basic nursing procedures, and documenting patient information accurately. You will collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement patient care plans, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for patients and their families. Additionally, you will participate in patient education, discharge planning, and infection control protocols. This role offers exposure to various clinical settings, including medical-surgical units, emergency departments, and intensive care units, allowing you to apply theoretical knowledge from nursing school to real-world patient care scenarios. You will also engage in professional development activities, such as attending educational sessions and shadowing experienced nurses, to enhance your clinical skills and understanding of healthcare operations. The externship is designed to prepare you for a successful transition into professional nursing practice by fostering critical thinking, communication, and teamwork abilities.

To be considered for the Student Nurse Externship, you must be currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) and have completed at least one clinical rotation. A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Previous healthcare experience, such as a nursing assistant or volunteer role, is preferred but not required. You must demonstrate a commitment to patient safety, ethical practice, and continuous learning. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform tasks that require manual dexterity.
