Food Service Worker

As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible for providing quality food service to patients in a healthcare setting. Your duties will include preparing and serving meals according to dietary guidelines and safety standards. You will ensure that food is handled, stored, and served in compliance with sanitation and infection control protocols. You will assist in maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and dining area, including performing heavy-duty cleaning tasks using powered cleaning equipment. You will work collaboratively with other food service staff to ensure timely and efficient meal service. You will also be responsible for interpreting and following instructions, specifications, and recipes accurately. You will use and maintain kitchen tools and equipment properly. Physical demands include frequent lifting and moving objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and greater than 40 pounds assisted, as well as continuous standing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and sitting. You may be required to work on ladders. Working conditions involve exposure to noise variations, hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, extreme temperature changes, humidity, potentially hazardous chemicals, slippery floors, and enclosed areas.

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. This includes the ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc., and the ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. There is no specific length of training or experience required. You must be able to perform moderate physical effort, including frequently lifting and moving objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and greater than 40 pounds assisted, and work on ladders. You must be able to tolerate continuous standing, walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and sitting. You must be able to work in conditions involving noise variations, hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, extreme temperature changes, humidity, potentially hazardous chemicals, slippery floors, and enclosed areas. Federal employees in the competitive service must meet Time-In-Grade requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
