Student Trainee(Sales Store Checker)

As a Student Trainee (Sales Store Checker), you will work under close supervision to perform a variety of entry-level tasks designed to familiarize you with the operations of a retail commissary environment. Your primary responsibilities will include: - Operating a cash register to process customer purchases, including scanning items, handling cash, credit, and debit transactions, and providing accurate change. - Greeting customers and assisting with inquiries regarding product locations, prices, and store policies. - Maintaining a clean and organized checkout area, including stocking bags, receipt rolls, and other supplies. - Assisting with price checks, markdowns, and ensuring that all items are correctly priced and displayed. - Supporting inventory management tasks such as counting stock, verifying shipments, and reporting discrepancies. - Following all safety and security procedures, including verifying customer identification for age-restricted items and monitoring for potential theft. - Performing other duties as assigned to support store operations, such as facing shelves, cleaning aisles, and assisting with customer carry-out services. - Participating in training sessions to learn about commissary policies, customer service standards, and sales procedures. - Collaborating with team members to ensure efficient checkout flow and a positive shopping experience for all customers. - Adhering to all federal, state, and local regulations regarding food sales, including proper handling of perishable items and compliance with health codes. This internship is designed to provide practical work experience and develop skills in retail sales, customer service, and store operations. You will be expected to work an intermittent schedule, primarily during the summer months from June to September 30, 2026.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements: 1. Student Status: You must be currently enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges), professional, technical, vocational, or trade school, advanced degree program, or other qualifying educational institution on at least a half-time basis (as defined by the institution). Short-term training programs (e.g., several two-week programs) are not considered qualifying. 2. Grade Point Average: You must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher each semester. 3. Education: To be eligible at the GS-2099-01 level, you must be enrolled in a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) program. Acceptable programs include: a high school diploma program, GED program, or home school curriculum approved by a state or local governing body; a private school providing secondary education as determined under state law; or an accredited program in a technical or vocational school, two-year or four-year college or university, or graduate or professional school. 4. Age: You must be at least 16 years of age. 5. Documentation: You must provide proof of enrollment reflecting your Spring 2026 status (e.g., transcripts, class schedule, or acceptance letter). Proof of future enrollment is required upon entrance on duty. If your school's definition of 'academic year' differs from the standard, you must submit documentation (e.g., course catalog) to verify. 6. Work Schedule: You must be able to work an intermittent schedule (not to exceed 90 days total, with no appointment extending beyond September 30, 2026). 7. Citizenship: You must be a U.S. citizen or national to apply. 8. Background Check: You may be subject to a suitability or security investigation.
