Registered Nurse(Inpatient)

The Registered Nurse (Inpatient) provides direct patient care in a hospital or clinical setting. Responsibilities include delivering fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies. The nurse integrates biopsychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice to care for patients with basic or complex needs. Key duties involve assessing patient conditions, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and coordinating care plans. The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient-centered care, adhering to evidence-based practices and regulatory standards. They also participate in patient education, discharge planning, and documentation of care. Leadership responsibilities may include guiding nursing assistants or orienting new staff. Professional development is expected through ongoing education and participation in research or quality improvement initiatives. The role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, in a fast-paced inpatient environment.

Basic Requirements: Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time of program completion. Alternatively, individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing with coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree may be appointed temporarily upon state licensure and converted to permanent after graduation. Graduates of foreign nursing schools must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration; credit for education beyond associate degree requires formal equivalency validation from a recognized evaluation service like ICD. Must hold a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: Candidates meeting education requirements but lacking licensure may be appointed on a 120-day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure, extendable up to two years. Grade Determinations: Nurse I, Level I requires an Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing with no additional professional nursing experience. Nurse I, Level II requires an ADN or Diploma in Nursing plus 1 year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level I, or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. All candidates must meet dimension requirements in Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence-Based Practice/Research as detailed in the online assessment.
