Registered Nuse I - Nursing Internship

The Registered Nurse I - Nursing Internship is responsible for patient assessment, care planning, and delivering quality nursing care to an assigned group of patients during a defined work period. This role involves providing direction and supervision to Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN/LPNs), nursing assistants, unit secretaries, and other clinical or clerical associates. By assignment, the nurse may function as a charge nurse for the unit, overseeing daily operations and ensuring patient care standards are met. The position requires provision of patient care and services to a diverse patient population, including older adolescents, young adults, adults, geriatric patients, and pediatric patients. Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive patient assessments to identify health needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans, and evaluating patient responses to interventions. The nurse will administer medications, perform treatments, and monitor vital signs, while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care. Supervision duties involve delegating tasks to support staff, providing guidance on clinical procedures, and ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. The nurse will also document patient information accurately in electronic health records, communicate effectively with patients and families, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. As a charge nurse, additional duties may include managing patient assignments, addressing staff concerns, and facilitating shift handoffs. The internship component provides structured learning opportunities to develop clinical skills, with mentorship from experienced nurses and exposure to various units. The role emphasizes patient safety, infection control, and adherence to ethical nursing practices. Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to delegate tasks and supervise support staff. Proficiency in electronic health record documentation. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays. Completion of a nursing internship program or equivalent clinical experience preferred.
