Bachelor’s Internship Problem-Solving Court Clinician

This internship provides bachelor’s-level students in counseling-related fields (e.g., social work, psychology) with direct experience in court treatment programs, specifically Drug Court and Recovery Court (a mental health court). Interns will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including representatives from the State’s Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, Probation Department, Jail Staff, Police, and Judges. Responsibilities include assisting in the coordination of treatment plans, observing court proceedings, and supporting clients in navigating the legal and treatment systems. Interns will help facilitate communication between team members, document client progress, and participate in case reviews. They will also engage in client assessments, provide supportive counseling under supervision, and contribute to the development of individualized treatment strategies. The role involves attending team meetings, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with court-ordered requirements. Interns will gain hands-on experience in problem-solving courts, learning how legal and therapeutic interventions intersect to address substance use and mental health issues. This position requires a commitment to a year-long placement, offering a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice and behavioral health systems.

Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in a counseling-related field such as social work, psychology, or a closely related discipline. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Interest in criminal justice, substance use treatment, or mental health. Basic understanding of confidentiality and ethical guidelines. Availability for a year-long internship commitment. Prior experience in a clinical or court setting is preferred but not required.
