As a Metallurgy Engineering Intern at Consolidated Precision Products, you will gain hands-on experience in aerospace manufacturing, focusing on metallurgical processes and quality assurance. Your primary responsibilities will include:
Process Support: Assist in monitoring and optimizing heat treatment, casting, and forging processes to ensure compliance with aerospace standards. Collaborate with senior engineers to troubleshoot metallurgical issues and improve production efficiency.
Material Analysis: Conduct metallographic examinations, including sample preparation, microscopic analysis, and mechanical testing (e.g., tensile, hardness, and impact tests). Document and interpret results to support material certification and process validation.
Quality Assurance: Participate in root cause analysis for non-conformances, support the development of corrective actions, and maintain accurate records of inspections and test data. Ensure adherence to industry specifications (e.g., AMS, ASTM).
Research and Development: Contribute to projects aimed at enhancing material properties, reducing costs, or developing new alloys. Perform literature reviews, design experiments, and present findings to the engineering team.
Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical reports, process sheets, and standard operating procedures. Maintain organized files for traceability and audit readiness.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with production, quality, and design teams to integrate metallurgical considerations into manufacturing workflows. Attend team meetings and provide updates on project progress.
Safety and Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and environmental regulations. Participate in safety training and promote a culture of continuous improvement in workplace safety.

To be considered for this internship, you must meet the following qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
- Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework by the start of the internship.
- Strong academic record with coursework in physical metallurgy, phase transformations, and mechanical behavior of materials.
- Basic understanding of metallographic techniques and mechanical testing methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Prior internship or lab experience in metallurgy or materials testing is preferred but not required.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
