Motor Vehicle Operator

Operate patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses, and other transport vehicles capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers. Transport patients to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas such as patient homes, railway stations, bus stations, and airports. Drive predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs as assigned. Responsibilities include maneuvering longer and heavier vehicles, especially when backing, which requires greater physical effort. Assist patients into and out of the vehicle, involving physical exertion, frequent stooping, bending, and possible lifting. Operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions on public roads, including heavy traffic and highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. Ensure safe and reliable operation of vehicles at all times. Follow instructions and specifications for mobile equipment operations. Demonstrate reliability and dependability in work practices. Interpret and adhere to safety protocols and operational guidelines. Maintain a high level of situational awareness to avoid accidents and ensure passenger safety.

No specific length of training or experience is required, but applicants must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of this position. Evidence must demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and ability to operate patient transport vehicles safely and effectively.
