岗位职责
This position is responsible for providing comprehensive psychological services within the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) and Outpatient Mental Health Services at a Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The psychologist will function as a member of an interdisciplinary team, delivering evidence-based care to veterans in an outpatient setting.
Key responsibilities include diagnosing mental disorders and conducting psychological or neuropsychological assessments to inform treatment planning. The psychologist will treat mental disorders through a variety of therapeutic modalities, including individual, group, and family psychotherapy. They will provide adjunctive interventions for the treatment of medical disorders, integrating psychological care with overall health management. The role involves designing and implementing effective treatment strategies tailored to diverse patient populations, and incorporating new clinical procedures and evidence-based practices into routine care.
Research activities are also a component of this position, which may include designing and implementing clinical research projects, managing research participant relations, documenting research data, and collaborating within an established research team. The psychologist will perform basic research tasks of scholarship and research execution within the context of an established research team.
Collaboration is essential, as the psychologist will work with other healthcare professionals within the BHIP and outpatient programs to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care. They will maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional and facility standards. Additionally, the psychologist will participate in program development, quality improvement initiatives, and staff training as needed. They must adhere to ethical and legal standards of psychological practice, including maintaining patient confidentiality and informed consent.
At the GS-11 level, the psychologist works under close supervision of a licensed psychologist. At the GS-12 level, the psychologist works under less intense supervision and demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in psychological treatments, assessment methods, and research activities.

Qualifications and requirements include: a doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited program; completion of an APA-accredited internship; licensure or eligibility for licensure as a psychologist in a state or territory of the United States; knowledge of evidence-based psychotherapies and psychological assessment methods; ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team; strong clinical documentation skills; and commitment to ethical and legal standards of practice. For GS-11 level, less experience and close supervision are expected; for GS-12 level, advanced knowledge and skills in psychological treatments, assessment methods, and research activities are required.
