Child and Youth Program Assistant (Target Level)

As a Child and Youth Program Assistant (Target Level), you will work in a childcare or youth program setting, providing direct care and supervision to children and youth. Your responsibilities include implementing developmentally appropriate activities that promote physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. You will assist in planning and conducting daily programs, including indoor and outdoor activities, arts and crafts, games, and educational exercises. You will ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by following established policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations. You will interact positively with children and youth, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. You will also communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding their child's progress and program activities. Additionally, you may be required to complete training courses and maintain certifications as directed by the Department of the Air Force Child and Youth Programs. This position is flexible, with no guaranteed hours but the potential to work up to 40 hours per week. Pay is based on experience and education, with a target level rate of $21.76 per hour.

To qualify for the Target Level, you must meet the following requirements: be a high school graduate or equivalent, and provide proof of diploma or equivalent. You must have 18 months of experience working in any childcare or youth program. Additionally, you must have completed DoD-approved competency-training courses, and entry and intermediate level training must be completed and evident by Service-issued documentation. You must also possess and maintain one of the following directly related to the age group of the position: a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, a Military School Age credential, or another nationally recognized youth development credential. Alternatively, you may have 18 months of experience working in a childcare or youth program plus an associate degree that includes a major course of study (24 credit hours) with content directly related to the age group, from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university. Or, you may possess and maintain one of the following: a Child Development Associate credential, a Military School Age credential, an Army Youth Practicum, or another nationally recognized youth development credential. A bachelor's degree or at least 120 semester hours with a major course of study (24 credit hours) from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university with content directly related to early childhood education, child development, youth development, human development, elementary education, special education, secondary education, youth program administration, recreation, or physical education is also acceptable. All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be credited.
