Data Analyst Student Intern (Student Volunteer)

As a Data Analyst Student Intern (Student Volunteer) with the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, you will support the office's dual role as both local and federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. Your primary responsibilities will involve applying data science techniques to assist in criminal and civil cases, ranging from misdemeanor drug possession to complex federal matters such as child pornography, gangs, financial fraud, and terrorism. You will work closely with legal teams to analyze large datasets, perform statistical analysis, and create data visualizations that inform prosecution strategies. This includes processing and cleaning data from various sources, identifying patterns and trends relevant to cases, and presenting findings in a clear, actionable manner. You will also contribute to developing data-driven solutions that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of prosecutorial efforts. Your work will involve collaborating with attorneys and investigators to understand case requirements, translating legal questions into analytical tasks, and delivering insights that support decision-making. You may also assist in preparing reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal stakeholders. This internship offers hands-on experience in applying data science within a legal and public service context, with a focus on providing solutions related to prosecution.

To be considered for this internship, you must meet the following qualifications: - Be a United States citizen. - Be currently enrolled and seeking a degree in a qualifying educational institution on a half- to full-time basis (as determined by the educational institution). - Be pursuing a degree in Data Science or a related field, with at least 4 or more semesters completed in your program. - Have an emphasis in statistical analysis and computation, processing large datasets, and data visualization. - Maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. - Demonstrate an interest in providing solutions related to prosecution. - Successfully complete a security clearance prior to starting the internship (contingent upon satisfactory completion).
