OPERATIONS RESEARCH ANALYST

As an Operations Research Analyst, you will apply scientific methods and techniques to analyze systems, processes, and operational problems. Your responsibilities include conducting extensive inquiries into basic data to discover facts or fundamental relationships, and interpreting and applying operations research rules and procedures in a variety of situations. You will recommend effective solutions to senior analysts based on your analysis. Additionally, you will communicate findings and recommendations effectively, both orally and in writing, and utilize computer operations to support your work.

Basic requirements include a degree in operations research, or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. For GS-7: completion of a 4-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with documented Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) at the undergraduate level, defined as a GPA of 2.95 or higher overall, or 3.45 or higher in the major field. For GS-9: completion of 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent, with a GPA of 2.95 or higher overall, or 3.45 or higher in the major field. If more than 10 percent of total undergraduate credit hours are non-graded (e.g., pass/fail, CLEP, CCAF, DANTES, military credit), you cannot qualify based on GPA. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include: professional operations research knowledge of scientific methods and techniques to analyze systems, processes, and operational problems; ability to analyze, interpret, and apply operations research rules and procedures and recommend effective solutions; ability to perform extensive inquiry into basic data to discover facts or fundamental relationships; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and knowledge of computer operations.
