BIOLOGICAL SCIENTIST (ENVIRONMENTAL)

As a Biological Scientist (Environmental), you will apply professional knowledge of biological sciences to support environmental programs and projects. Your responsibilities include: - Conducting routine environmental investigations and studies to identify unsanitary or questionable conditions in assigned projects. - Performing minor phases of larger, more complex environmental projects under specific instructions. - Applying standard practices, methods, and techniques of biological sciences to address environmental problems. - Collaborating with team members to ensure compliance with applicable federal environmental regulations and standards. - Documenting findings and preparing reports on environmental conditions and project outcomes. - Assisting in the development and implementation of environmental program checklists and monitoring procedures. - Participating in training and developmental assignments to build competency in environmental science and management. This role involves working on projects that require systematic investigation and problem-solving within the environmental field, contributing to the overall mission of protecting natural resources and public health.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements: - Degree: A bachelor's degree or higher in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university. - For GS-7: Completion of a 4-year bachelor's degree with documented Superior Academic Achievement (SAA), defined as: - A GPA of 2.95 or higher out of 4.0 overall, or based on the final 2 years of curriculum; OR - A GPA of 3.45 or higher out of 4.0 in the major field courses, or in major field courses completed during the final 2 years. - For GS-9: Completion of 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent, with the same GPA requirements as GS-7. - Note: If more than 10% of undergraduate credit hours are non-graded (e.g., pass/fail, CLEP, CCAF, DANTES, military credit), you cannot qualify based on GPA. - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): 1. Professional knowledge of biological sciences (environmental) concepts, principles, and standard practices to perform routine projects or minor phases of larger projects. 2. Knowledge to study environmental problems requiring investigation of unsanitary or questionable conditions. 3. Basic knowledge of applicable federal environmental regulations. - All qualifications must be met prior to August 2026.
