Instrumentation and Control Apprenticeship

As an Instrumentation and Control Apprentice, you will work under the guidance of experienced professionals to develop practical skills in designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting instrumentation and control systems. Your responsibilities will include assisting with the calibration and configuration of sensors, transmitters, controllers, and other field devices used in industrial automation. You will learn to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams to support system integration and commissioning. Additionally, you will participate in routine inspections, preventive maintenance tasks, and fault-finding activities to ensure optimal performance of control systems. You will collaborate with team members to document work processes, update system records, and adhere to safety protocols and industry standards. This apprenticeship provides hands-on exposure to programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems (DCS), and human-machine interfaces (HMIs), enabling you to build a strong foundation in instrumentation and control engineering. You will also be expected to engage in continuous learning, attend training sessions, and apply mathematical and computer skills to solve technical problems. The role involves working in a workshop and on-site environments, requiring attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication with colleagues and supervisors.

To be successful in this role, you should have a strong aptitude for mathematics and computers, with a keen interest in keeping up to date with the latest technology. You must be currently continuing an Instrumentation and Controls apprenticeship or have relevant foundational knowledge in this field. A high level of attention to detail and analytical thinking is essential. Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are required. Prior experience or education in electronics, electrical systems, or industrial automation is advantageous. You should be willing to learn and adhere to safety regulations and industry standards. A valid driver's license may be required for site visits.
