Mechanical Fitter Apprentice

As a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice, you will work hands-on with a leading pump manufacturer to gain broad technical experience across the mining and water industries. Your responsibilities include: - Assisting in the assembly, installation, and maintenance of pumps and related mechanical equipment for mining and water/wastewater applications. - Performing mechanical fitting tasks such as machining, welding, and fabrication under the guidance of experienced tradespeople. - Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications to ensure accurate assembly and repair. - Conducting routine inspections, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems to identify faults and implement corrective actions. - Collaborating with a supportive, long-established team to complete projects efficiently and safely. - Adhering to workplace health and safety standards and maintaining a clean, organized work environment. - Participating in on-the-job training and formal education to achieve a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical (Mechanical Fitter). - Supporting the production and servicing of pumps used in critical infrastructure, ensuring reliability and performance. - Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on processes and equipment. - Documenting work completed, including maintenance logs and reports, as required.

To be successful in this role, you need: - Current enrollment as a mid-trade apprentice in mechanical fitting or a related engineering discipline. - Basic understanding of mechanical principles and tools used in fitting and assembly. - Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. - Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. - Good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to learning. - Physical fitness to handle manual tasks and work in various environments (e.g., workshop and field settings). - Effective communication skills to work within a team. - Willingness to complete a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical (Mechanical Fitter) as part of the apprenticeship. - Previous experience in a trade or industrial setting is advantageous but not required.
