Freight Forwarding - Customs Broker- MEL-new

As a Customs Broker based in Melbourne, you will be responsible for managing and facilitating the customs clearance process for international shipments. Your primary duties include: Customs Clearance: Prepare and submit accurate customs documentation, including import and export declarations, to ensure compliance with Australian customs regulations and international trade laws. You will classify goods using the Harmonized System (HS) codes and calculate duties, taxes, and fees. Client Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for clients regarding customs matters, providing guidance on regulatory requirements, tariff classifications, and documentation needs. You will resolve any issues or delays in clearance processes. Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on changes in customs laws, trade agreements, and sanctions. Ensure all shipments adhere to Australian Border Force (ABF) and other relevant authorities' requirements. You will also manage bond entries and duty drawback claims. Documentation Management: Review and verify shipping documents, such as bills of lading, invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin. Maintain accurate records for audit purposes. Problem Resolution: Address and resolve discrepancies, inspections, or holds with customs authorities. Coordinate with freight forwarders, carriers, and warehouse teams to expedite clearance. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline customs processes, reduce costs, and improve turnaround times. Collaborate with internal teams to enhance service delivery. Reporting: Generate reports on clearance status, duty payments, and compliance metrics for management review. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced logistics environment. You will work closely with a global network of offices to ensure seamless cross-border operations.

To be successful in this role, you must have: - **Experience**: Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Customs Broker in the freight forwarding or logistics industry. - **Licensing**: Valid Australian Customs Broker License (or ability to obtain one). - **Knowledge**: In-depth understanding of Australian customs regulations, tariff classifications, and trade compliance. Familiarity with global logistics and supply chain processes. - **Skills**: Proficiency in customs software (e.g., CargoWise, Descartes, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. - **Education**: Diploma or degree in logistics, supply chain management, international trade, or a related field is preferred. - **Attributes**: High attention to detail, ability to multitask, and a proactive approach to resolving issues.
