Manage customs clearance for international shipments, ensuring compliance with Australian regulation

As a Customs Broker, you will be responsible for managing and facilitating the customs clearance process for international shipments. Your primary duties include:
Customs Clearance: Prepare and submit customs documentation, including import and export declarations, to ensure compliance with Australian customs regulations and international trade laws. You will classify goods using the Harmonized System (HS) codes and calculate duties, taxes, and fees.
Compliance and Regulations: Stay updated on changes in customs regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements. Ensure all shipments meet legal requirements, including quarantine, biosecurity, and prohibited goods restrictions. Liaise with government agencies such as the Australian Border Force and Department of Agriculture.
Client Coordination: Communicate with clients, freight forwarders, and carriers to gather necessary documentation and provide status updates on clearance processes. Resolve any discrepancies or delays in documentation or shipment clearance.
Documentation Management: Review and verify commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin. Maintain accurate records of all customs transactions and filings for audit purposes.
Problem Resolution: Address and resolve customs holds, inspections, or penalties by working with authorities and clients. Provide guidance on duty minimization strategies and trade compliance.
Operational Support: Collaborate with internal teams, including operations and logistics, to ensure seamless end-to-end shipment processing. Support process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in customs brokerage.

To succeed in this role, you will need:
- **Experience**: Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Customs Broker, preferably in freight forwarding or logistics. Proven track record in handling complex customs clearances.
- **Certification**: Licensed Customs Broker status in Australia (or eligibility to obtain). Strong knowledge of Australian customs laws, tariff classifications, and biosecurity requirements.
- **Skills**: Proficiency in customs brokerage software and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure.
- **Communication**: Strong verbal and written communication skills for client and authority interactions. Ability to explain complex regulations clearly.
- **Education**: Diploma or degree in logistics, international trade, or a related field is preferred.
