As an Electronic Engineer within the Air Force Civilian Service, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing electronic systems and components used in various aerospace applications. Your primary duties include:
- Analyzing and evaluating electronic systems to ensure they meet performance, reliability, and safety standards.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electronic subsystems into larger platforms.
- Conducting research to advance electronic technologies for defense and aerospace needs.
- Preparing technical reports, specifications, and documentation for electronic designs.
- Troubleshooting and resolving electronic system issues during development and deployment.
- Participating in design reviews and providing expert guidance on electronic engineering principles.
- Ensuring compliance with military and federal regulations for electronic equipment.
- Supporting the development of prototypes and conducting laboratory and field tests.
- Contributing to the lifecycle management of electronic systems from concept through sustainment.
This role involves working on cutting-edge projects that directly support national security objectives. You will apply engineering principles to solve complex problems, optimize system performance, and innovate within the field of electronics. The position requires a strong foundation in electrical circuits, signal processing, and system integration, with opportunities to specialize in areas such as communications, radar, or avionics.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
Basic Requirement: A degree in Engineering from an accredited program. The program must either (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET, or (2) include differential and integral calculus and advanced courses in five of seven specified areas: statics/dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics/hydraulics, thermodynamics, electrical fields/circuits, nature/properties of materials, or comparable areas like optics or electronics.
Additional Qualification: All educational requirements must be met by June 2026. You may qualify at the GS-7 level with superior academic achievement (S.A.A.) at the baccalaureate level, defined as: (a) upper third of graduating class, (b) grade-point average of 3.0 or higher (rounded to one decimal), or (c) membership in a national scholastic honor society (freshman honor societies excluded). For GS-9, completion of a master's or higher degree in engineering is qualifying, provided your background demonstrates equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Documentation: Submit a copy of your transcript (degree audits not accepted). If qualifying based on class standing or honor society membership, provide appropriate documentation.
