COMPUTER SCIENTIST

As a Computer Scientist within the Force Renewal Programs, you will be responsible for applying advanced engineering and computational principles to solve complex technical problems. Your primary duties include designing, developing, and testing software systems and algorithms that support Air Force missions. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to analyze system requirements, create technical specifications, and implement solutions that enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, you will conduct research to identify emerging technologies and integrate them into existing systems. You will also document all development processes, prepare technical reports, and present findings to stakeholders. Your role involves troubleshooting and debugging software issues, ensuring system reliability and security. You will participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Furthermore, you will mentor junior team members and provide guidance on best practices in software engineering. You will work on projects that require a deep understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software architecture. You will also ensure compliance with federal regulations and standards. Your work will directly impact the effectiveness of Air Force operations, requiring attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.

Basic Requirement: A degree in Engineering from an accredited program that includes differential and integral calculus and courses in at least five of the following seven areas: statics/dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics/hydraulics, thermodynamics, electrical fields/circuits, nature/properties of materials, or other comparable engineering science/physics (e.g., optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, electronics). All educational requirements must be met by June 2026. For GS-7: Superior academic achievement at the baccalaureate level in engineering, demonstrated by class standing in the upper third of the graduating class, a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher (rounded to one decimal place), or membership in a national scholastic honor society (freshman honor societies excluded). For GS-9: Completion of a master's or higher degree in engineering, with evidence that the total background (education and experience) demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those acquired through the specified courses.

The Air Force Personnel Center manages civilian training programs, including the PALACE Acquire program, for the U.S. Air Force. It is responsible for force renewal and development, and international affairs administration.
