Staff Attorney

Staff attorneys serve the full court of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. The caseload covers virtually every area of federal law, with a unique focus on cases against the executive branch. Responsibilities include researching and analyzing complex legal issues in depth, advising judges on difficult and varied legal matters, and communicating findings clearly both orally and in writing. Attorneys must demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to handle a high volume of diverse cases.

Must be a member of the bar of a state or the District of Columbia. Must have at least one year of relevant experience after graduation from law school. Must demonstrate the ability to research and analyze complex legal issues in depth and to express themselves clearly, both orally and in writing.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit is a federal appellate court that handles cases involving federal law, including many challenges to executive branch actions. It hires staff attorneys to assist judges with legal research and analysis.
