岗位职责

About the Company
The mining industry has steadily become worse at finding new ore deposits, requiring >10X more capital to make discoveries compared to 30 years ago. The easy-to-find, near-surface deposits have largely been found, and the industry has chronically under-invested in new exploration technology, relying on the manual techniques of yesteryear – even as demand accelerates for copper, lithium, and other metals to build electric vehicles, renewable energy, and data centers.
KoBold builds AI models for mineral exploration and deploys those models—alongside our novel sensors—to guide decisions on KoBold-owned-and-operated exploration programs. Since our founding in 2018, KoBold has become by far both the largest independent mineral exploration company and the largest exploration technology developer. Our data scientists and software engineers, who come from leading technology companies, jointly lead exploration programs with our renowned exploration geologists.
KoBold has proven its first discovery with materially less capital than the industry average and found one of the best copper deposits ever discovered: the copper is far more concentrated than the global average of copper mines, and this asset alone is expected to generate meaningful revenue for decades. KoBold has a portfolio of more than 60 other projects, each of which has the potential for another high-quality discovery.
KoBold is privately held; investors include institutional asset managers T. Rowe Price and Canada Pension Plan Investments; technology venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BOND Capital, Durable Capital, StepStone, and Standard Investments; and strategic natural resources companies BHP and Mitsubishi.
About the Role
KoBold is seeking an experienced International Tax Senior Manager, to join KoBold’s Global Tax and Finance Team and assist in developing and executing tax planning strategies and maintain global tax compliance in a dynamic mining environment. As part of the Global Tax and Finance Team, you will manage international tax compliance while driving global tax strategy and planning. You will work closely with our Associate Director of Tax and Senior Manager of International Accounting to ensure compliance across 13 jurisdictions, and coordinate with the rest of the Global Tax and Finance Team and KoBold's external tax and accounting advisors. This position requires both technical tax expertise and strategic thinking, and since KoBold is a startup company, your role and responsibilities will be dynamic and will evolve as the company grows.
This is a remote position reporting to the Associate Director of Tax.
Responsibilities
Manage international direct tax compliance for multiple jurisdictions including Canada, the Nordic Region, UK, Europe, Australia, serving as primary liaison with external advisors; and act as a key team member for compliance in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Strategize, research, and plan for tax implications of global operations, coordinating U.S. and foreign tax laws to develop optimal tax planning strategies
Support the development and execution of corporate restructurings, entity reorganizations, and capitalization strategies. Analyze tax implications of structural changes, model alternative scenarios, and coordinate with Legal, Finance, and external advisors to implement tax-efficient structures across multiple jurisdictions
Develop and maintain tax systems that leverage Ai to support strategic decision-making, including cash tax forecasting, scenario analysis, capital structure optimization, thin capitalization monitoring, and evaluation of tax implications for corporate transactions and operational initiatives
Provide technical expertise and operational support for indirect taxes (VAT, withholding taxes, sales/use taxes, customs duties) across key jurisdictions as needed, and partner with local finance teams to resolve complex issues, ensure timely compliance, and identify optimization opportunities
Partner with Procurement, Supply Chain, Technology, Operations, Finance, and Legal on tax and customs implications of business decisions
Partner with non-tax departments and leadership to support legal entity structuring for new operations and business expansion
Research and identify tax planning opportunities including incentives, credits, duty relief programs, and treaty benefits and assist with existing mining tax credit and SR&ED calculations in Canada; with an ability to take beginning to end ownership of research to execution
Assist with tax audits and controversy matters by coordinating responses and developing technical positions
Build scalable processes and documentation as the company transitions from exploration to production
Qualifications
Minimum of 8 years of tax experience, with public accounting, law firm and/or in-house experience preferred
CPA, JDand LLM (Tax) (or equivalent) preferred

Advanced proficiency in Excel and use of Ai applications
Strong organizational skills and proactive communicator and collaborator
Ability to work effectively across cultures and collaborate with international teams
Intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn about all aspects of mineral exploration, particularly in the geology domain. Enjoys constantly learning such that you are driving insights through using our tools in exploration and willing to work directly with geologists in the field.
Ability to explain technical problems to and collaborate on solutions with domain experts who are not within the tax or accounting function. A strong communicator who enjoys working with colleagues across the company.
Excitement about joining a fast-growing early-stage company, comfort with a dynamic work environment, and eagerness to take on an evolving range of responsibilities.
Keen not just to build cool technology, but to figure out what technical product to build to best achieve the business objectives of the company.
A valid passport and willingness to travel to observe our work at Mingomba or at an exploration site around the world. Travel for this role typically does not exceed 3-5 trips per year.
A high degree of independence and the ability to work effectively with limited supervision
An eagerness to work on whatever needs to be done
