Tenured and tenure-track faculty positions in computational genetics and experimental genetics and g

岗位职责

The Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine invites applications for tenured and tenure-track faculty positions in computational genetics and experimental genetics and genomics.
We welcome applications at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level from established leaders and rising investigators whose work will define the next generation of genetic discovery and its translation to human health.
We seek Ph.D.- and/or M.D.-trained scientists with a record of rigorous, high-impact scholarship and the potential to establish and sustain an externally funded, independent research program.
Successful candidates will contribute to a highly collaborative scientific community and participate in the education and mentorship of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, residents, and other trainees.
Research may address rare or common disease, fundamental genetic and genomic mechanisms, technology development, or other major questions in biology and medicine.
Computational Genetics We seek computational investigators who develop or apply innovative quantitative approaches to important problems in genetics, genomics, and human health.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: • Artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistical genetics, algorithm development, and responsible genomic data science.
• Analysis of whole-genome, long-read, single-cell, spatial, multi-omic, proteomic, imaging, biobank, and electronic health record data.
• Variant interpretation;
genotype-phenotype relationships;
and population, comparative, structural, functional, and evolutionary genomics.
• Knowledge representation, causal and network modeling, data integration, visualization, and scalable software or cloud-enabled systems.
Experimental Genetics and Genomics We seek experimental investigators who use innovative systems and technologies to elucidate biological mechanisms in health and disease and translate discovery toward diagnosis or therapy.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: • Genetic, epigenetic, nucleomic, RNA, protein, metabolic, cellular, developmental, or systems mechanisms in health and disease.
• Human genetics integrated with model organisms, organoids, patient-derived systems, induced pluripotent stem cells, transdifferentiated cells, and other innovative platforms.
• Functional genomics, single-cell and spatial biology, genome and epigenome engineering, synthetic biology, quantitative phenotyping, and technology development.
• Mechanism-driven therapeutic discovery, including gene, RNA, cell, small-molecule, and other precision approaches.
Candidates who connect computation and experiment, or who create platforms that enable such integration, are especially encouraged to apply.
About the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics and Baylor College of Medicine The Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine has sustained national leadership in genetics research, reporting the highest number of NIH grants among genetics departments at U.S. medical schools and average annual NIH funding approaching $75 million over the past decade.
The Department includes more than 70 primary research faculty whose work spans computational genetics, bioinformatics, functional genomics, genome structure and function, disease mechanisms, model systems, and therapeutic development.
The Department brings physicians, experimental scientists, quantitative researchers, clinical laboratories, and trainees into a shared genetics and genomics mission.
Research programs span genome sequencing and interpretation, computational and integrative biomedicine, model-organism and precision disease modeling, neurogenetics, cancer, aging, developmental biology, metabolism, genome stability, multiomics diagnostics, gene and genome editing, and clinical investigation.
Departmental programs participate in major NIH and industry consortia and support work from fundamental mechanism to diagnostic innovation, preclinical development, and clinical research.
Faculty benefit from a deeply integrated research environment that includes the Human Genome Sequencing Center;
the Bioinformatics Research Laboratory;
the Computational and Integrative Biomedical Research Center;
Baylor Genetics;
the Medical Genetics Multiomics Laboratory;
the Undiagnosed Diseases Center;
the Center for Precision Medicine Models;
the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute;
the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center;
and major programs in neurogenetics, aging, cancer, skeletal biology, genome editing, rare disease, and clinical research.
The Department has exceptional capabilities in large-scale and clinical-grade genome sequencing, long-read sequencing, multi-omic analysis, software engineering, computational modeling, cross-species genetics, deeply phenotyped human cohorts, patient-derived systems, and mouse, Drosophila, yeast, bacterial, cellular, induced pluripotent stem cell, and organoid models.
Its translational infrastructure supports diagnostic innovation, target discovery, preclinical studies, technology transfer, and clinical investigation.
Candidates will join a highly collaborative scientific community with potential partners across Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital, the Texas Medical Center, Rice University, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the University of Houston.
The Department also supports outstanding Genetics and Genomics Ph.D. training, quantitative and interdisciplinary graduate programs, postdoctoral training, medical genetics residencies, and clinical laboratory fellowships.
Qualifications and Expectations • A Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree.
• A record of original, rigorous, and important scholarship appropriate to career stage.
• A clear vision for an independent, externally funded research program.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to build productive bridges across disciplines, data types, model systems, and clinical domains.
• A commitment to excellence in mentorship and education.
• Professionalism and alignment with Baylor College of Medicine’s values of Respect, Integrity, Innovation, Teamwork, and Excellence.
Appointment and Support Appointments will be made at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
Baylor College of Medicine and the Department offer competitive recruitment packages and resources to launch or expand an outstanding research program.
Qualified candidates may also be eligible for recruitment support through the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.
Additional opportunities may emerge through the Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.
Application Instructions Applicantsshould submit one PDF containing: • A curriculum vitae.
• A two-page statement summarizing major accomplishments and the vision and priorities for the applicant’s future research program.
Email the application to .
Applicants should arrange for three letters of reference to be sent directly by the recommenders to the same address.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.
