JULY AND COMPLEMENTARY LEGISLATION IDMECPublic Notice nº 30 1.The Institution of Mechanical Engineering (IDMEC) open an international selection competition for one doctorate position for the exercise of activities of scientific research in the area of Engineering Sciences and Technology, sub area of Mechanical Engineering, Intelligent Systems, in the form of an employment contract under an unspecified fixed-term work contract under the “Código do Trabalho” (Labor Code), under the project HYBRIB, 2023.18270.ICDT financed by national funds by FCT.IP, to perform the following functions: Duties and responsibilities: Introduce Artificial Intelligence (surrogate models) and machine learning (ML) methods into the traditional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) framework to accelerate computational processing time and the scalability of the
SIMPLE algorithm, applying these ML methods to wind, current, wave, and tidal energy applications.
Tasks to be performed: • Solve the pressure Poisson equation using matrix solvers that employ ML for acceleration.
• Use ML methods within the non-linear cycles of pressure-velocity coupling to improve upon classical
SIMPLE approximations.
• Replace the
SIMPLE algorithm with ML methods.
• Generate high-quality training data for renewable energy applications.
• Design and develop the end-user interface for the created models.
• Prepare written documentation covering all work performed.
Research findings are expected to result in papers submitted to conferences and journals.
Admission
