岗位职责

The Physician in Compensation & Pension at McClellan is responsible for conducting comprehensive medical examinations and assessments for veterans applying for disability compensation and pension benefits. Key duties include performing thorough physical examinations, reviewing medical histories, and documenting clinical findings in accordance with VA protocols and regulations. The physician will evaluate service-connected conditions, assess the severity and impact of disabilities, and provide detailed medical opinions regarding etiology and impairment. This role requires accurate and timely completion of Compensation & Pension (C&P) examination reports, ensuring compliance with quality standards and legal requirements. The physician will collaborate with other healthcare professionals and administrative staff to facilitate efficient processing of claims. Additionally, the physician may participate in peer reviews, quality assurance activities, and training sessions to maintain high standards of clinical practice. The position involves working within a structured clinical environment, managing a caseload of veterans, and adhering to strict deadlines for report submission. The physician must maintain clear and professional communication with veterans, their families, and VA stakeholders, ensuring a compassionate and respectful approach to patient care.

Qualifications: Must be a United States Citizen. Hold a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school of medicine or osteopathic medicine. Possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility. Approved residencies include those accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or other non-US residency programs followed by at least five years of verified practice in the United States, as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee. Board certification is preferred, especially for those involved in academic training programs.
