The Child Development Specialist develops broad-based individuals to effectively handle change and complexity within the Air Force environment, applying child development concepts, instructional methods, and administrative procedures to resolve program issues.

As a Child Development Specialist, you will develop broad-based individuals capable of effectively dealing with change and complexity within the Air Force environment as it relates to their career field. Your primary responsibilities include applying child development concepts, theories, and principles to support program operations. You will utilize fact-finding, analysis, and action planning methods to resolve program problems and issues. Additionally, you will employ instructional methods and curriculum development techniques to enhance child development programs. You will communicate effectively both orally and in writing to coordinate with team members and stakeholders. Administrative office procedures, practices, and concepts will be used to ensure efficient program management. This role requires adapting to evolving needs within the Air Force context, ensuring that child development initiatives align with organizational goals and support the growth of individuals in a dynamic environment.

To qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following basic requirements: 1) A degree that included or was supplemented by major study in education or a subject-matter field appropriate to the position; or 2) A combination of education and experience, including courses equivalent to a major in education or a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional coursework providing knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through a 4-year course of study. For Child Development Training and Curriculum Specialist positions with the Departments of the Air Force and Navy, education must be in child development or early childhood education. To qualify at the GS-07 level, you must have completed 1 academic year of graduate-level education, a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement, 5 academic years of pre-professional study, or 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5. Specialized experience includes knowledge of child development concepts, theories, and principles; methods and techniques of fact-finding, analysis, and development of action plans; administrative office procedures, practices, and concepts; instructional methods and curriculum development; and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
