The psychologist will provide evidence-based psychotherapies (EBP) for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related conditions within a Veterans Affairs healthcare setting. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive psychological assessments, diagnosing mental health disorders, and developing individualized treatment plans. The psychologist will deliver individual and group therapy using empirically supported treatments such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). They will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, social workers, and nurses, to coordinate patient care and ensure integrated treatment approaches. The role involves maintaining accurate clinical documentation in electronic health records, participating in case conferences, and providing consultation to other healthcare providers on trauma-informed care. Additionally, the psychologist will engage in program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery. They may supervise psychology interns, practicum students, or postdoctoral fellows, contributing to training and professional development. The psychologist will stay current with advancements in PTSD research and clinical practices, attending relevant trainings and workshops. They will also contribute to outreach efforts to engage veterans in treatment and reduce barriers to care. The position requires adherence to ethical guidelines and VA policies, ensuring culturally competent and patient-centered care.

Qualifications include a doctoral degree in psychology from an APA, PCSAS, or CPA accredited program, with a specialty consistent with the assignment. Alternatively, a doctoral degree in any area of psychology with completion of an APA or CPA accredited re-specialization program in a consistent specialty, or a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature. Successful completion of a professional psychology internship accredited by APA or CPA consistent with the assignment is required. New VHA psychology internship programs applying for APA accreditation are acceptable if sanctioned by VHA Central Office. VHA facilities offering full-time, one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are acceptable. Applicants with a non-accredited internship may be eligible if board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a consistent specialty. United States citizenship is required; non-citizens may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
