Law Student Volunteer (Fall )

As a Law Student Volunteer with the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, you will gain hands-on experience in both local and federal prosecutions, as well as civil litigation. Your responsibilities will include assisting attorneys with case preparation, legal research, and drafting legal documents. You will work on a wide range of cases, from misdemeanor drug possession and murders to child pornography, gangs, financial fraud, and terrorism. Additionally, you will support the office's representation of the district in civil suits. This role offers exposure to the unique dual role of the office, which acts as both the local and federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. You will be expected to contribute to trial preparation, including organizing evidence, preparing witnesses, and assisting with courtroom proceedings. You will also participate in legal analysis and writing, helping to develop case strategies and legal arguments. The internship is designed to provide practical legal experience and insight into the workings of a major U.S. Attorney's Office.

Rising second and third-year law students enrolled in a Juris Doctor program are eligible. Candidates must have outstanding academic records, superior writing skills, and be in good academic standing. A minimum GPA of 3.0 or a GPA ranking in the top half of the class is required. Applicants must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States.
