Occupational Therapist - Hospital Acute Care

Provides occupational therapy services in an acute care hospital setting. Evaluates patients by assessing their physical, cognitive, and psychosocial abilities to determine functional deficits and rehabilitation needs. Establishes individualized treatment goals and plans evidence-based intervention programs in accordance with physician orders. Implements therapeutic activities to improve patients' independence in activities of daily living (ADLs), such as dressing, bathing, grooming, and feeding. Addresses fine motor skills, upper extremity function, sensory integration, and cognitive-perceptual skills. Recommends and trains patients in the use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology to enhance safety and function. Monitors patient progress, adjusts treatment plans as needed, and documents all evaluations, interventions, and outcomes in medical records. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members to coordinate patient care and discharge planning. Provides patient and family education on home exercise programs, safety precautions, and community resources. Supervises and directs occupational therapy assistants, technicians, and support personnel to ensure quality service delivery. Assumes responsibility for occupational therapy charges and ensures accurate billing documentation. Participates in departmental educational programs, in-services, and quality improvement initiatives. Maintains compliance with hospital policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.

Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of practice. Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy program (Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree). Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. Minimum of one year of experience in acute care or hospital-based occupational therapy preferred. Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for patient interaction and team collaboration. Ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) documentation.
