As a Non-Law Student Volunteer with the United States Attorney's Office for the District of New Mexico during Fall 2026, you will support the administration of justice by assisting attorneys and staff in the Albuquerque and Las Cruces offices. Your responsibilities will include conducting legal and factual research, drafting legal documents and correspondence, reviewing case files, and preparing materials for court proceedings. You will also assist with document management, including organizing and summarizing evidence, and may participate in trial preparation tasks such as assembling exhibits and coordinating with witnesses. Additionally, you will help with administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and maintaining case records. This internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in federal law enforcement and litigation, working closely with experienced legal professionals. You will be expected to demonstrate strong academic skills, excellent research and writing abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to fairness and integrity. The role may also involve attending court sessions and meetings, as well as contributing to office projects and initiatives. Students may earn academic credit for their work at the office.

To be eligible for this internship, you must meet all of the following requirements: Student Status: You must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, two-year or four-year college or university, graduate/professional school, or certificate program equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study. You must be considered in good academic standing by your school and be taking at least a half-time academic, vocational, or technical course load leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate. Grade Point Average: You must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Citizenship: You must be a United States citizen or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. Background Investigation: You must successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment. Additionally, you should have a strong academic background, excellent research and writing skills, an eye for detail, and a commitment to fairness and integrity supporting the administration of justice.
