Staff Psychologist - BHIP

The Staff Psychologist in the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) provides comprehensive psychological services to veterans within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team setting. Key responsibilities include conducting psychological assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions for a diverse patient population with complex mental health conditions. The psychologist develops and implements individualized treatment plans, monitors patient progress, and adjusts interventions as needed. They provide crisis intervention and risk assessment services, ensuring timely and appropriate responses to acute mental health needs. The role involves active participation in team meetings, case conferences, and treatment planning discussions to coordinate care across disciplines. The psychologist also engages in consultation with other healthcare providers, offering expertise on psychological aspects of patient care. Documentation of clinical activities is maintained in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the psychologist may supervise psychology trainees, including interns and practicum students, contributing to their professional development. They participate in program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery. The position requires adherence to ethical guidelines and VA policies, with a focus on delivering veteran-centered, recovery-oriented care.

Qualifications: Must be a U.S. citizen. Requires a doctoral degree in psychology from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time of completion. Alternatively, a doctoral degree in any area of psychology with completion of an APA- or CPA-accredited re-specialization program, including an approved internship, is acceptable. Degrees awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution with a primarily psychological dissertation are also qualifying. Must have successfully completed a professional psychology internship accredited by APA or CPA at the time of completion. Internships in VHA programs seeking APA accreditation, pre-1979 VHA internships, or board certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a relevant specialty may also fulfill this requirement. Licensure as a psychologist is required. Experience in evidence-based psychotherapy and assessment with adult populations is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for interdisciplinary collaboration.
