Psychologist-Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI)

The Psychologist in Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) will provide integrated behavioral health services within a primary care setting. Responsibilities include conducting brief, evidence-based assessments and interventions for patients with mental health and behavioral health concerns, such as depression, anxiety, substance use, and chronic disease management. The psychologist will collaborate closely with primary care providers to develop and implement treatment plans, offer consultation on patient care, and facilitate warm hand-offs for same-day access. Duties also involve participating in quality improvement initiatives, providing education to primary care staff on behavioral health topics, and maintaining timely documentation in the electronic health record. The role requires working within a stepped-care model, triaging patients to appropriate levels of care, and supporting population health management through proactive outreach and follow-up. The psychologist will contribute to program development and evaluation, ensuring alignment with evidence-based practices and VA guidelines. Additionally, the position involves supervising psychology trainees and participating in interdisciplinary team meetings to enhance integrated care delivery.

Qualifications include a doctoral degree in psychology from an APA, PCSAS, or CPA accredited program, with a specialty area consistent with the assignment. Applicants must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. U.S. citizenship is required. Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory. A degree in school psychology is not eligible. Alternatively, candidates may have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and have completed a re-specialization program (including an approved internship) in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program.
