The Staff Psychologist will provide comprehensive mental health services within the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP). Key responsibilities include conducting psychological assessments, diagnosing mental health conditions, and delivering evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions to a diverse patient population. The psychologist will develop and implement individualized treatment plans, monitor patient progress, and adjust interventions as necessary. They will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure integrated and coordinated care. The role involves providing crisis intervention services, including risk assessment and management for patients experiencing acute psychological distress. The psychologist will maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements. They will participate in clinical supervision, training, and education of psychology trainees and other staff as assigned. Additionally, the psychologist will engage in program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes. They will contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols and evidence-based practices within the BHIP. The psychologist will also provide consultation to other healthcare providers on psychological aspects of patient care. They will adhere to ethical guidelines and maintain confidentiality in all clinical interactions. The position requires active participation in team meetings, case conferences, and administrative activities to support the overall mission of the mental health service.

Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be proficient in spoken and written English. Education: Must possess a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed. Alternatively, a doctoral degree in any area of psychology with successful completion of a re-specialization program (including an approved internship) in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program, with the specialty consistent with the assignment. A doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution with a primarily psychological dissertation is also acceptable. Internship: Must have completed a professional psychology internship training program accredited by APA or CPA at the time of completion, consistent with the assignment. New VHA psychology internship programs in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable if sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations at the time of the internship. VHA facilities offering full-time, one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are acceptable. Applicants who completed an internship not accredited by APA or CPA may be considered. Licensure: Applicants pending license requirements may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate psychologist not to exceed 2 years at the GS-11 or 12 grade levels, depending on creditable experience.
