Staff Psychologist-Gateway

The Staff Psychologist will conduct initial diagnostic assessments for patients entering the Mental Health Clinic, including developing initial treatment plans, assessing risk, and triaging referrals to appropriate outpatient services. The psychologist will also complete inpatient and emergency room evaluations when consulted by hospital services such as ER physicians, Internal Medicine, Surgery, or other specialty providers. This role involves writing detailed reports and providing face-to-face or phone consultation with referring services.

Must be a citizen of the United States. Must hold a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time of program completion, with the specialty area consistent with the assignment. Alternatively, a doctoral degree in any area of psychology with completion of a re-specialization program in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program, with the retrained specialty consistent with the assignment. A doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution with a primarily psychological dissertation is also acceptable. Must have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program accredited by APA or CPA at the time of completion, consistent with the assignment. New VHA psychology internship programs in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable if sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations at the time of the internship. VHA facilities offering full-time, one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre 1979) are acceptable. Applicants who completed an internship not accredited by APA or CPA may be eligible only if currently board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area consistent with the assignment, and must maintain board certification.
