CHILD CENTER PROGRAM ASSISTANT (Multilevel) - MCGUIRE

The Child Center Program Assistant supports the operation of Child Development Centers at McGuire AFB, New Jersey. Responsibilities include assisting with the daily care, supervision, and development of children in a safe and nurturing environment. The assistant implements age-appropriate activities that promote physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth, following established curriculum and program guidelines. Duties involve maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard-free classroom; monitoring children during play, meals, and rest periods; and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and security standards. The assistant communicates effectively with parents and guardians regarding children's progress and daily activities, and collaborates with other staff to foster a positive team environment. Additional tasks may include preparing materials for lessons, assisting with meal and snack service, documenting observations, and participating in training and professional development. The role requires flexibility to work various shifts within center operating hours and to adapt to the needs of different age groups, from infants to school-age children. The assistant also supports special events, field trips, and family engagement activities as directed. This position operates under the supervision of higher-level program staff and may involve mentoring or guiding entry-level assistants. The assistant must be able to respond calmly and effectively in emergencies, following established protocols. Overall, the role is integral to delivering high-quality child care services that meet the developmental needs of children and support the mission of the Department of the Air Force Child and Youth Programs.

High school graduate or equivalent (proof required). For Target Level: 18 months of experience working in a childcare or youth program. Completion of DoD-approved competency-training courses, with entry and intermediate level training completed and evident by Service-issued documentation. Possession and maintenance of one of the following directly related to the assigned age group: Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Military School Age credential, Army Youth Practicum, or other nationally recognized youth development credential. OR an associate degree with 24 credit hours in content directly related to the assigned age group from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university. OR a bachelor's degree or at least 120 semester hours with 24 credit hours in early childhood education from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university. Experience may include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations. All qualifying experience must be clearly described in the resume.
