CHILD AND YOUTH PROGRAM ASSISTANT (ALL LEVELS)

The Child and Youth Program Assistant (All Levels) is responsible for providing direct care and supervision to children and youth in a Department of the Air Force Child Development Center. Duties include planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that promote physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. The assistant will ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment. Responsibilities also involve interacting positively with children and youth, modeling appropriate behavior, and fostering a supportive atmosphere. The assistant will assist with meal and snack times, including preparation and cleanup, and may help with toileting and diapering as needed. Recordkeeping tasks include documenting attendance, incidents, and developmental observations. The assistant will communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding daily activities and child progress. Collaboration with other staff members is essential to maintain program quality and consistency. Depending on the level (Entry, Intermediate, or Target), the assistant may take on additional duties such as mentoring lower-level staff, leading group activities, or assisting with curriculum planning. Flexibility is required as the position is flex (0-40 hours per week) and may involve working various shifts within the center's operating hours.

ALL LEVELS: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent; proof of diploma or equivalent required. TARGET LEVEL: 18 months of experience working in a childcare or youth program. Completion of DoD approved competency-training courses. Additionally, entry and intermediate level training must be completed and evident by Service-issued documentation. Must possess and maintain one of the following directly related to the age group assigned: Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Military School Age credential, or other nationally recognized youth development credential. OR 18 months of experience plus an associate degree with 24 credit hours in a major course of study directly related to the age group assigned (e.g., early childhood education, child development, youth development, human development, elementary education, special education, secondary education, youth program administration, recreation, physical education) from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university. OR Possession and maintenance of one of the following: CDA, Military School Age credential, Army Youth Practicum, or other nationally recognized youth development credential. OR A bachelor's degree or at least 120 semester hours with 24 credit hours in a major course of study directly related to the age group assigned from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university. INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: Six months of experience equivalent to the CY-01 Entry Level working in a group program for children or youth. Completion of 3 AF modules (or equivalent) and AF Orientation Training Program. ENTRY LEVEL: No previous experience required.

Operates child and youth programs, specifically the Schriever School Age Program, under the Department of the Air Force.
