Child and Youth Program Assistant (Child Development)

As a Child and Youth Program Assistant (Child Development), you will support the daily operations of the Child Development Center, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. Your responsibilities include: Child Supervision and Safety: Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being at all times. Maintain constant awareness of each child's location and activities, and respond promptly to any incidents or emergencies. Program Implementation: Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Activities may include arts and crafts, music, storytelling, outdoor play, and educational games. Adapt activities to meet the individual needs and interests of children. Classroom Management: Help maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom environment. Set up and clean up activity areas, manage supplies, and ensure all materials are safe and accessible. Support positive behavior guidance and conflict resolution among children. Communication and Collaboration: Work closely with lead teachers, other assistants, and center leadership to ensure consistent care and programming. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about daily activities, child progress, and any concerns. Record Keeping and Compliance: Assist in maintaining accurate records of attendance, incidents, and developmental observations. Follow all Department of the Air Force Child and Youth Programs policies, including health, safety, and sanitation standards. Participate in required training and professional development. Flexible Support: Depending on the employment basis (Flexible or Regular), you may work varying hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed. Provide support across different age groups and classrooms as assigned.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements based on the target level: **All Levels**: - High school graduate or equivalent (proof required). **CY Program Assistant (Target Level)**: - 18 months of experience working in any childcare or youth program. - Completion of DoD approved competency-training courses (entry and intermediate level training must be completed and evident by Service-issued documentation). - AND one of the following: - Possession and maintenance of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Military School Age Credential, or other nationally recognized youth development credential directly related to the assigned age group. - An associate degree with at least 24 credit hours in a major course of study directly related to the assigned age group (e.g., early childhood education, child development, youth development, human development, elementary education, special education, secondary education, youth program administration, recreation, physical education) from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university. - A bachelor's degree or at least 120 semester hours with 24 credit hours in a major course of study directly related to the assigned age group from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university. **CY Program Assistant (Intermediate Level)**: - Six months of experience equivalent to the CY-01 Entry Level working in a group program for children or youth. - Completion of 3 AF modules (or equivalent). - Completion of AF Orientation Training Program. **CY Program Assistant (Entry Level)**: - No previous experience required. **General**: - Experience may include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer experience through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps). - Proof of eligibility (e.g., transcripts, credentials) must be provided with application.
