Child and Youth Program Assistant (School Age / Youth)

The Child and Youth Program Assistant (School Age / Youth) is responsible for supporting the daily operations of a School Age Center or Youth Center on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Duties include supervising and engaging children and youth in age-appropriate activities, ensuring their safety and well-being, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment. The assistant will implement program curricula, facilitate recreational and educational activities, and assist with behavior management. Responsibilities also involve maintaining a clean, organized, and safe facility, communicating effectively with parents and guardians, and documenting children's progress and incidents as required. The role may include preparing and serving snacks, assisting with homework, and leading group games or projects. Depending on the target, intermediate, or entry level, the assistant will progressively take on more independent planning and leadership of activities, mentor junior staff, and contribute to program development. All levels require adherence to Department of the Air Force Child and Youth Programs policies and procedures, including health, safety, and security standards.

ALL LEVELS: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, with proof of diploma or equivalent required. For CY Program Assistant (Target Level): 18 months of experience working in any childcare or youth program; completion of DoD-approved competency-training courses with entry and intermediate level training completed and documented; plus one of the following: a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Military School Age credential, or other nationally recognized youth development credential directly related to the assigned age group; OR an associate degree with 24 credit hours in a major course of study directly related to the age group (e.g., early childhood education, child development, youth development, human development, elementary education, special education, secondary education, youth program administration, recreation, physical education); OR a bachelor's degree or 120 semester hours with 24 credit hours in a directly related field. For CY Program Assistant (Intermediate Level): Six months of experience equivalent to CY-01 Entry Level working in a group program for children or youth; completion of 3 AF modules (or equivalent); and completion of AF Orientation Training Program. For CY Program Assistant (Entry Level): No previous experience required.
